We've been hearing the rumors lately, but Om Malik has a report from The China Post that states that Apple is getting ready to unveil a new "non-touch" iPod. More than likely, this will be the Video iPod we've been hearing about for the past six months, with a bigger widescreen display that overlays a touch screen on the video when you touch the screen.
I've been holding out on getting a new iPod until I see what the company has in store for the next generation of iPods. There's no point in going out and getting a 5G right now, because I know that we're getting to the point in that inevitable cycle when Apple starts phasing out the old and bringing in the new. That's not the only reason I've been holding out, however: that Toshiba Gigabeat S has recieved outstanding reviews across the board, and I fell in love with it after only trying it out for a few minutes at Best Buy last week. I always figured I'd be an Apple guy for life when it came to portable media, but they're really going to have to innovate with the new generation of iPods in order to keep me from getting the Toshiba.
