So Long, David

Unlike many in Houston, I’m actually a bit sorry to see David Carr go. I realize that David Carr has, in large part, been responsible for the woes of the Texans since they drafted him, but I also (unlike many others) understand that it’s never completely been his fault. He took a horrible pounding his first few years in the league, and never complained or showed anything but toughness, taking hit after hit and getting up every single time.

The Texans should have drafted Vince Young last year. They’ve even admitted as such. That was one of the dumbest moves ever made by a Houston sports franchise, and there have been PLENTY of those over the years. To get angry at David Carr and make him the scapegoat because they made a stupid draft decision isn’t fair to him, though, and I hope that Carr goes to another team and becomes the quarterback the Texans thought he would become when they drafted him.

They didn’t admit they should have drafted Young. They said they shouldn’t have extended David. It’s a difference.

Rick Smith the current GM said he would have drafted Reggie Bush, guaranteed last year. They would have gone another direction for a QB if they hadn’t kept Carr.
