The Houston Astros finally did what I said they needed to do: pulled the trigger on pulling Hunter Pence from the minors to the bigs. He’ll start tonight in center field and will remain there indefinitely, while Chris Burke is relegated to utility duty.
Burke had every chance in the world to prove himself, but he’s done nothing to indicate that he deserves to be the everyday center fielder. Pence, on the other hand, had a monstrous spring and has continued his hot hitting for the Round Rock Express.
It was only a matter of time. When you’ve got a guy that talented, that hot at the plate, there’s no sense in keeping him buried in the minors just to make him pay his dues.
